Dr. Robert Bakss LLB, BBS, MBS, DBS, JP

After completing a law degree and pursuing a career in law, God called Robert Bakss to the ministry in 1988. He worked in the legal profession and in Local Government before accepting the call to be the pastor of Lighthouse Baptist Church in 1997 where he had been the youth pastor since 1993. Pastor Bakss, who accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Saviour in 1979, often states God called him from “mans law to Gods law”!
The Lord has established his ministry and blessed the church in a wonderful way for the glory of God and since becoming pastor, he has completed his Masters degree and his Doctorate of Biblical Studies.
Dr. Bakss is also being used of God as a conference speaker at various meetings around Australia and overseas. His influence throughout the South Pacific and parts of Asia has increased as he has helped many pastors and missionaries develop an understanding of both the principles and the practicalities of Biblical leadership.
His vision of a training preachers, missionaries and Christian workers for the 21st century was realized in 1997 with the founding of Lighthouse Baptist Bible Institute which became Australian Baptist College in 2007. Pastor Bakss is also the editor of the Biblical Builder magazine, a national magazine for Independent Baptist Churches in Australia.
Pastor Bakss was born in Sydney, Australia and he and his wife Jenny have five children – Ben, Anna, Joshua, Timothy and Jonathan. His family also includes his daughter in law Alice who is married to his eldest son Ben, and son-in-law Steven who is married to his daughter Anna. He also has four grandchildren from Ben and Alice, twins Caleb and Silas, and granddaughters Gracelyn and Annalise; and one granddaughter from Steven and Anna – Marlia.
