After completing a law degree and pursuing a career in law, God called Robert Bakss to the ministry in 1987. Pastor Bakss, who was saved in 1979 often states God called him from "mans law to Gods law"!

Following a period of training and preparation God led him in 1997 to accept the call to be the Pastor of the church where he had been the youth pastor since 1993. Over the past few years the Lord has established the ministry of Pastor Bakss and blessed the church in a wonderful way for the glory of God.

Lighthouse Baptist Church has become a place where people can find friendships and love; a place where lives are built upon the promises of God's Word. This has truly become a place where hearts are touched and changed under his leadership. Pastor Bakss is also being used of God as a conference speaker at various meetings around Australia and overseas.

His vision of a Bible Institute was realized in 1997 with the founding of Lighthouse Baptist Bible Institute and is a school designed to train preachers, evangelists, missionaries and Christian workers for the 21st century.

Pastor Bakss was born in Sydney, NSW and he and his wife Jenny have five children - Ben, Anna, Joshua, Timothy and Jonathan. His family also includes his daughter-in-law Alice, who is married to his eldest son Ben, and they have twin boys, Silas and Caleb and a little girl called Gracelyn, and his Son-in-law Steven Snell who is married to Anna.
